Technology is an underutilized asset in
many minority businesses in the City of New Orleans. This
fact coupled with the impact and devastation incurred by
Hurricane Katrina puts our businesses at an extreme
disadvantage in the opportunity to partake in the quantum
leap growth opportunity rebuilding New Orleans provides.
With the Mayor introducing a mandate for 50% of all
contracts to go to minority businesses, basic technological
needs, such as business development and sales tracking
systems, online accounting systems and computer networking
are the high priority needs as our businesses begin
returning to the region.
NewCorp’s Bayou Road Community Business
Assistance Center, expected to be completed in late 2007,
has been designed to provide an outsourcing option for the
small businesses community, and, in particular, the
contracting industry. Through the Bayou Road Community
Business Assistance Center, NewCorp will provide access to
computers, the internet, and specialized software products
for industry specific businesses, but will also offer its
technical assistance and loan products to the small
businesses community in general.
